Current status
As of now, we are in the start-up and design phase of our enterprise. We are currently not a licensed producer of medicinal cannabis. However, this is a deliberate and strategic choice. This decision reflects our commitment to building a solid, legally compliant foundation. Significant time and resources have been invested in understanding the intricacies of the industry's legal and regulatory landscape. By aligning with knowledgeable industry professionals, we are ensuring that PermaCann's journey from the first seeds planted in our living soil beds, to full-scale operation is guided by expertise and adherence to legal standards.
PermaCann Pty Ltd formally registered as a company limited by shares under the corporations act 2001 December 15, 2023.
Moving forward
At PermaCann, we are resolute in our commitment to the highest standards of cultivation. Our journey begins with the acquisition of suitable land and the securement of vital investments to establish a state-of-the-art cultivation facility. This marks the initial steps towards our application for a medicinal cannabis cultivation license, a process that we approach with meticulous care and unwavering adherence to regulatory requirements. Our proactive approach ensures that we will begin progress for the license application almost immediately after land settlement.
Understanding the importance of comprehensive documentation, our team has personally crafted all regulatory compliance documentation in-house tailored to our unique operation. This in-depth knowledge is not only crucial for regulatory purposes but also from a company perspective, ensuring that every aspect is finely tuned to our specific needs. We recognize that variations to license applications can be costly and time-consuming. Each Request for Information (RFI) under section 14J of the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967 can potentially add 10 days to the application timeline for each change requested. Therefore, by carefully preparing our application from the start and having a deep understanding of our documentation, we aim to minimize the need for such variations and ensure a streamlined and efficient process.
While the Office of Drug Control (ODC) does not specify statutory requirements for license approval times, they aim to process applications within 195 days. It has been suggested we can expect a 14J at approximately 12 months after the initial application. With our well-prepared application and a profound understanding of our documentation, we anticipate that the overall timeline, from submission to approval, will typically average around 18 months. This timeline reflects the thoroughness of our approach and the dedication we bring to meeting and surpassing industry standards in the cultivation of medicinal cannabis.
Getting our hands dirty
While we patiently wait for the ODC to process our license application we will be bussier than ever setting up the farm for proficent livestock management.
Our first few months on land will be devoted to fencing and shelter development for our more vunerable livestock. The entire property will be "pig proofed" to keep our sexy swine true to their heritage, and ensure that our more vunerable livestock don't become prey to dingoes or other wild dogs.
As the infrastructure comes together we will bring in our livestock, with our suppliers ready to bring 80 head of 250 kg Black Angus steer the day we can handle them. Other livestock will be sourced over as short a timeframe possible, though this can be expected to take some time being "Heritage breeds" and not necessarliy available immediately.
In parallel with our meticulous cultivation process, we are equally dedicated to the continuous improvement of our team's expertise and the refinement of our farming methods. A significant portion of our time during this phase will be dedicated to training and developing our employees' skillsets. We believe that a knowledgeable and skilled workforce is essential for achieving excellence in every aspect of our operation, from sustainable farming practices to biodynamic principles.
Additionally, we recognize the critical role of research and development in shaping the future of our inputs and cultivation techniques. We are committed to exploring innovative solutions, including approved for organic use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. Our R&D efforts will focus on finding environmentally friendly and sustainable ways to protect our crops while upholding our commitment to organic practices. By investing in both our team's capabilities and continued research, we are confident in our ability to lead the way in sustainable and eco-conscious cannabis cultivation.
